On Thursday 14 September, CPA was delighted to hold a drinks reception to launch Derwent London’s White Collar Factory at 1 Old Street – which overlooks tech city’s silicon roundabout.
David Ainsworth, CPA Vice President, opened the event by welcoming guests and commenting on CPA’s venture to Old Street: a business cluster neighbouring the Square Mile, which is increasingly important to Central London’s development and investment industry.
The podium was then handed over to Benjamin Lesser, Development Manager at Derwent London. He spoke about the history of this special building, from its early design concept and the experimental test building, all the way through to the finished tower that you can see today. Benjamin explained how innovative design and Derwent’s approach retail, had attracted non-traditional but valuable occupiers, including tech firms and design agencies.
CPA members were treated to a tour of the building which is full of interesting features, including a large lobby and public café with movable furniture; windows which open, allowing fresh air into high-rise offices; and an environmentally sustainable cooling system using concrete and water.
A highlight of the evening was guests’ being taken up to the rooftop on the 16th floor to experience the world’s highest running track and enjoy spectacular views of the City and beyond.
